Mayaguez, Puerto Rico- Student Associations presented their distinct projects to over 80 companies, that participated in the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez Campus (RUM) Company Night gala, at the Central American Sports Complex located inside the campus grounds last Thursday September 29.
Many student associations, like Radio Colegial, the American Chemistry Society RUM Chapter, Aero Design, Society of Women Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, and United Nations Association of the United States RUM Chapter, amongst many others interacted with recruiters. This in hope of getting grants from interested companies to fund their different projects, show what their members are capable of doing, and give the companies a glimpse of what to expect from students of the campus as they evaluate the different alternatives presented to them.

During the gala main reception ceremonies Dr. Rivera Santos, the campus Interim Chancellor, welcomed the recruiters to the RUM. “We are an integral part of the economy, as we provide the skilled capital of the future” he said as he addressed the recruiters of the over 80 companies that were present during the dinner portion of the activity. All these companies came to campus to recruit students to work for their respective groups, locally and abroad.
The Company Night gala is an event organized yearly, the day before the annual Job Fair is held. Many of the recruiters that come to the event are campus alumni that return to campus to recruit students from their alma mater to work for companies like Google, Verizon, Centennial, Nagnoi, the Department of Defense, US Forest Service, US Nuclear Commission, LenTech, amongst many others, both private and federal government departments.
